One of my favorite photos was selected by the National Capital Area Council for Boy Scouts for a motivational poster called "Retention" and signed by former NCAC Scout Executive Al Lambert. The image was made in the early morning on Lake Merriweather, on the Camp PMI dock, at the Goshen Scout Reservation in Goshen Va as the boys sat waiting for their swim test.
I was asked to take the group shot at the Vienna Merit Badge Day for Boy Scouts so I decided to do a very quick 3 shot hand held HDR image. I think it worked well.
Haven't posted in a few days. Been very busy with clients and kids, clients and kids, things are going well. I had a recent shoot up in Bethesda last week and popped in on my friends at the NCAC. I had been working with the marketing director to donate some of my work I had taken over several years at the Goshen Scout Reservation in Goshen VA. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the lobby to see one very large HDR image I did of Lake Merriweather as seen from View Rock. Its a fantastic hike for the scouts with a beautiful view at the peak. Several more pics were hanging throughout the building.

Our Cubz gathered last night for the annual Holiday Bake Off where the kids bake goodies during the week and enter them for a chance to win. Coming in First Place in the Artistic Category for his cupcake rendition of a scout camp out was my good buddy and Webelo Luke. The scene below is worthy of a ribbon for sure.
What I had not noticed until Luke brought it to my attention was that he had carefully crafted a miniature of myself, the Cubmaster, fast asleep under my "I love Boy Scouts" blanket and my camera safely perched upon my chest.
Its many small moments such as this that make being a scout leader well worth the time and effort. I was touched.

Cubs of Pack 976 had a great time last night watching the antics of General Foolishness. The good General, otherwise known as Mr. Paul Hadfield, put on a great show of juggling, uni-cycling, slapstick, and lots of Tom Foolery. The boys had a blast. When fall arrives its camping time for Cubs from Pack 976 of Vienna, Va. To get our new Tigers and new recruits out into the woods we head out to Camp William B. Snyder. This 350-acre camp, located in Haymarket, Virginia is the latest and greatest camping experience offered by the National Capital Area Council and the Boy Scouts of America. The boys enjoy a weekend of activities like BB guns, archery, the Big Dig, hiking, and of course the late night fire and roasting marshmallows. Hats off to Eric Steele, the Camp Director, who keeps things rolling along at such a large facility.

Meet my friend Msgr. Brady. Msgr. lives at the Goshen Scout Reservation outside of Lexington, Va. during the summer months while the boys are in camp. He spends his days walking the Goshen Beltway, visiting the boys in camp to educate them on the importance of living the scout oath, celebrating mass for scouts and leaders, and honing his photography skills, which gives us plenty to talk about. 
Our troop usually arrives in large numbers which allows us the opportunity to have our own mass at our campsite. Makes for a very special moment for the boys.

Ahoy Mates! My oldest son and I just returned from a trip to the Boy Scout Florida Sea Base National High Adventure Camp, Islamorada, on Lower Matecumbe Key in the Florida Keys. The word adventure only begins to describe what fun we had on the open seas. Captain Jim of the Midnight Dragon was an exceptional host and taught our crew to sail, snorkel, and fish, while sharing his knowledge of the history and splendor of the keys. The staff at Sea Base was top notch and treated the boys like royalty.

Although the Captain credited me with landing our fish, everyone had a hand in reeling in Mr. Mutton. He was rather stuborn. The Captain filleted and seasoned our fish. The boys grilled him up. Mmmm good.
A traditional hike for us is always to Viewing Rock. This outcrop overlooks the majestic Lake Merriweather. Its a great two mile hike pretty much straight up. Just enough challenge for our youngest scouts....and our more seasoned older leaders. The reward is worth the effort.
Shots like these remind me of the classic Norman Rockwell Scouting Artworks. Brings a tear to my eye when I watch. No kidding!

This was the majestic view that greeted us this very morning in Sandbridge, Virginia just south of Virginia Beach. Scouts of Troop 976 of Vienna were invited to tour the U.S.S. Anzio (CG 68) docked at the Naval Base in Norfolk. Through the persistence and determination of our fearless Scoutmaster, our trip included an unexpected visit to the air craft carrier U.S.S Teddy Roosevelt (CVN-71) which was moored nearby. All the Navy and Marine soldiers we met along the way were most accommodating and we thank them for their patience and dedication.
